'Courage, Thy Name Is Jaspreet': Anand Mahindra Offers Help To Delhi Boy Selling Rolls On Roadside Cart

Much like the 'vada pav' girl, 10-year-old Jaspreet was forced into selling rolls. Now, Anand Mahindra is looking to help the child to help with his education.

Anand Mahindra shared a video of a 10-year-old boy who sells rolls from a roadside stall in Tilak Nagar, Delhi. The boy has a 14-year-old sister. After their father passed away they were abandoned by their mother who left for Punjab. The children now live with their uncle. His story was brought to light by an influencer, much like the story of the famous ‘vada pav girl’ or Chandrika Dixit. In a similar way, she opened her ‘vada pav’ stall following the death of her parents and when he son fell ill with dengue. 

Mahindra extended his support to the boy in Tilak Nagar and appreciated his efforts, for taking responsibility for his family at this age. The chairman of the Mahindra group sought the number of the 10-year-old boy to help with his education. He said, in his tweet, “The Mahindra Foundation team will explore how we can support his education.”

"Courage, thy name is Jaspreet. But his education shouldn’t suffer. I believe he’s in Tilak Nagar, Delhi. If anyone has access to his contact number please do share it. The Mahindra Foundation team will explore how we can support his education," he wrote along with the video on X.

The post has been viewed over 1.3 million times since being shared. The post saw a lot of responses from many users.

One user wrote, “Hats off to him.. It will be really a great gesture if your foundation can take care of him and his sister education and livelyhood too.. My prayers are with him and you too…”

While another wrote, “Jaspreet is fearless! Education is crucial. It's great that the Mahindra foundation is stepping in to support his education.”

"He is not giving up..this kid has decided to take up the responsibility & stand up for himself. His courage is inspiring which is pushing him to stand during odd times," a user wrote.

"His courage and 'never give up' attitude is inspiring! May he get support from the community and do well in future," another user said.

Similarly, a video of a 12-year-old boy who sells the “cheapest ‘vada pav’”, at just Rs 20 was shared on the internet. He told an influencer that he gets up at 5 in the morning to prepare his mixture so that he can sell fresh ‘vada pavs’. He mentioned that he also attends school regularly. The boy added his parents’s dream of him becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.
