Bengaluru Traffic Hack: Startup Founder Shares Productivity Tips From His Taxi

Amrut Joshi, a Bengaluru-based entrepreneur, shared his "traffic cheat sheet" to transform his 80-minute daily commute from Hebbal to Whitefield into productive time.

While Bengaluru’s infamous traffic only seems to push commuters further and further away from their sanity, one entrepreneur in the city has actually regained lost time—right out of the backseat of his taxi.

Amrut Joshi, a founder of a startup based in Karnataka's capital, recently posted his own traffic cheat sheet on LinkedIn, describing how he transformed his 80-minute daily commute from Hebbal to Whitefield into a very productive portion of his day.

Bengaluru’s traffic has become increasingly nerve-wracking, Joshi admitted in the post. "But over time, I’ve figured out how to turn this time-drain into a time-gain," he added.

His traffic survival toolkit includes light reading, ranging from TechCrunch articles to political biographies and even cricket analysis on Cricinfo. Joshi clarified that while he avoids legal reading during the ride, he’s been steadily working through his reading list, one traffic jam at a time.

But reading isn't the only productivity activity. Joshi also uses his commute to make brief calls—to clients, colleagues, and friends. Even a brief conversation is helpful to keep in touch, he wrote. Air pollution, another major concern for urban commuters, is part of Joshi’s daily checklist. He wears a face mask during longer rides to reduce exposure to vehicular emissions. And when energy levels dip he allows himself a quick nap to recharge before reaching his destination. Perhaps most striking is Joshi’s mindset shift, instead of dreading the ride, he has reframed it as a quiet space to think, learn, and reconnect. "A short rest helps recharge my energy for the day ahead," the post read.

Traffic doesn’t have to be wasted time, he concluded, inviting other commuters to share their own hacks. Signing off as a traffichacker, Joshi’s post struck a chord with professionals navigating Bengaluru’s increasingly gridlocked roads.
