WWDC 2022: Redesigned Apple Maps To Offer Multi-Stop Navigation

Apple on Monday (June 6) announced it was expanding functions of the Apple Maps with the iOS 16.

At its annual WWDC 2022 event, Apple on Monday (June 6) announced it was expanding functions of the Apple Maps with the iOS 16 and adding cycling alongside other representations of places in Chicago, Las Vegas, among other locations. According to the Cupertino, California-based tech giant, the redesigned Apple Maps will be rolling to 11 countries. However, it is not known when and if the redesigned Apple Maps will be coming to India soon.

Apple is also adding the much-useful multi-stop routing to Apple Maps and lets users add up to 15 stops on their route. Notably, the multi-stop feature was rolled out by Google on Android way back in 2016. There will be an ability to plan trips on Macs and send them to the iPhones.

The multistop routing will make sure that users can plan up to 15 stops in advance and automatically sync routes from Mac to iPhone when they are ready to go. Transit updates will be brought to users, to make it easy for riders to view how much their journey will cost. People can add transit cards to Wallet, see low balances, and replenish transit cards without leaving maps.

Users can add the stops manually during their rides. They can also use voice commands if they are running behind the wheel. The voice command features will use Siri and people will be able to plan multi-stop routes on a Mac, and then send them to the iPhone when they are ready to get started. Cycling and Look Around are the new features which will be available on Apple Maps.

Riders can see their fares directly on Apple Maps. Apple is also making improvements to MapKit, starting with the city experience. The city experience will allow the users to get a detailed look at the available cities. People can also see landmarks and roads.

One can integrate high-resolution imagery from Maps into Zillow and other third-party apps.

Apple also plans to give its developers access to faster and more flexible ways to build the map experiences with its server-side Application Programming Interfaces, later this year.
