WhatsApp Desktop Users Will Now Be Able To Conduct Group Video Calls

WhatsApp will also allow users to link multiple devices for a seamless experience.

WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging platform owned by Facebook-parent Meta, has introduced a refreshed desktop app that among other things, promises group video calling for all users. Additionally, using WhatsApp on multiple devices will now be seamless, as it will allow users to link multiple devices at once, helping users continue chats across devices without a hitch.

On March 23, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to Facebook to announce the launch of a new Windows app for WhatsApp. Through the new app, WhatsApp will allow desktop users to conduct end-to-end encrypted video calls with up to eight people at once, as well as audio calls with up to 32 participants.

This will help position WhatsApp against other instant and corporate messaging platforms such as Slack or even video-conferencing apps such as Zoom or Google Meet. Furthermore, WhatsApp announced on Twitter that users will now be able to link the app on up to four devices. This will ensure that chats stay synced across devices, facilitating seamless continuation of chats no matter which screen you are using.

WhatsApp also claims that the new Windows app comes with a familiar user interface for ease of usage, promising faster loading times.

WhatsApp earlier this month introduced a new feature for its iOS beta users, which will allow them to see the push names of unknown group members, instead of seeing their phone numbers as earlier.

This new feature will make it easier for users to identify who the unknown contact is without needing to save their number as a new contact. It will be particularly useful for participants in large group chats where it can be challenging to keep track of who is who.
