iPhone Users, Update Now! Govt Flags High-Risk Apple Security Flaws. All You Need To Know

This security scare, as flagged by CERT-In, affects a broad swath of Apple hardware and software, not just the iPhone 16 series.

If you own an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or even an Apple Watch, it's time to stop scrolling and check for software updates — immediately. A serious security warning has been flagged by the Indian government, sounding the alarm over multiple vulnerabilities across Apple devices, including the latest iPhone 16 models. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has categorized the alert as "high severity," and it's not something to take lightly.

The alert, dated April 4, 2025, outlines several technical flaws that, if left unpatched, could allow hackers to break into devices, steal sensitive information, and potentially gain control. From memory corruption issues to improper file parsing, the range of flaws offers enough entry points for malicious actors to compromise Apple’s widely used ecosystem.

“Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Apple products due to Type confusion error, use-after-free error, Out-of-bounds read, Out-of-bounds write issue, Improper Parsing of files, Issue in input validation, Buffer overflow, Path handling flaws," CERT-In explained in its notice.

What Devices Are At Risk?

This security scare affects a broad swath of Apple hardware and software, not just the iPhone 16 series. According to the advisory, these are the affected versions:

  • iOS and iPadOS versions before 18.4
  • Older iOS iterations such as 16.7.11 and 15.8.4
  • iPadOS versions before 17.7.6 and 15.8.4
  • macOS Sequoia versions before 15.4
  • macOS Sonoma versions before 14.7.5
  • macOS Ventura versions before 13.7.5
  • Apple Safari before 18.4
  • Apple Xcode before 16.3
  • tvOS before 18.4
  • visionOS before 2.4

The list is extensive, impacting everything from phones and tablets to developer tools and even Apple’s new Vision Pro platform.

How To Protect Yourself From the Threat

Apple has already pushed out patches to fix the vulnerabilities, urging users to install the latest updates right away. To secure your devices, head over to your settings menu: Settings > General > Software Update, and install the latest version available for your device.

While Apple tends to act swiftly with security fixes, the widespread nature of this vulnerability makes user action critical. This isn’t just another minor update — it’s a vital shield against potentially devastating cyberattacks.

So if you’ve been hitting “Remind Me Later,” now’s the time to hit “Download and Install.”
