iPhone 17 Base Models May Get 'Pro' Makeover. Will Apple Bump Up Prices?

Apple has historically kept some of its most advanced features exclusive to the Pro models, but recent trends indicate a shift.

Apple’s next-generation iPhone 17 lineup is already making waves, with fresh leaks suggesting that the standard models could finally inherit a premium display upgrade from their ‘Pro’ siblings. If the rumors hold true, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus may boast a 120Hz ProMotion display, bringing smoother visuals and an always-on display feature to Apple’s more affordable variants.

ProMotion Display for All?

Apple has historically kept some of its most advanced features exclusive to the Pro models, but recent trends indicate a shift. After the Dynamic Island feature made its way to non-Pro models, expectations were high for ProMotion to follow suit last year. However, that didn’t happen with the iPhone 16 series. Now, multiple reports hint that 2025 could finally be the year when the base models embrace the smoothness of a 120Hz refresh rate, making everyday interactions, from scrolling to gaming, significantly more fluid.

The transition to an LTPO OLED panel would also unlock the always-on display functionality, a staple of the Pro lineup since the iPhone 14 Pro. This move aligns with Apple’s strategy of gradually narrowing the gap between its standard and premium models while keeping the Pro editions a step ahead with additional exclusive perks.

Major Camera Upgrade in the Works?

Beyond the display enhancements, another major rumor swirling around the iPhone 17 is a potential boost in selfie camera capabilities. Apple could finally introduce a 24MP front camera, a significant jump from the current 12MP sensor.

If true, this upgrade would cater to users who prioritise high-resolution selfies and group shots, addressing long-standing demands from Apple loyalists.

Will Prices Go Up?

While these potential upgrades sound exciting, they also raise the inevitable question: will Apple bump up prices for the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus? The recent pricing strategy for the iPhone 16E suggests that Apple isn’t shy about introducing costlier models. However, whether the rumored features justify a price hike remains to be seen. As always, Apple’s official announcement later this year will provide the final word.

With the iPhone 17 lineup shaping up to be a significant step forward for non-Pro models, Apple fans have plenty to look forward to. Stay tuned as more details unfold in the coming months.
