Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino Says 'We Are Often Imitated' As Instagram's Threads Hits 30 Million Sign-Ups

Meta-owned Instagram Threads, the new Twitter rival, has hit 30 million downloads. However, it is not clear if the initial success would translate into something bigger than micro-blogging site Twitter. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the feat on the platform and said it is the "beginning of something special." As of December 2022, Twitter's users accounted for over 368 million monthly active users globally, according to Statista.

"Wow, 30 million sign ups as of this morning. Feels like the beginning of something special, but we've got a lot of work ahead to build out the app," Zuckerberg wrote in an Instagram Threads post.

The Meta CEO also added that the app would follow footsteps of how the company's other products grew: build the product, hit 1 billion users and then monetise the platform.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, Instagram Threads was apparently one of the most popular topics of discussion since Wednesday.

Yaccarino on Thursday asked the Twitter community to "stay together" and that a platform like Twitter is "often imitated." She announced that everyone's voice matters on Twitter.

Instagram threads is being touted as a rival to billionaire Elon Musk-owned Twitter. The platform will let users share mini-posts, just like Twitter, but it will leverage all the elements from Instagram, including usernames, followers, and others.
