Instagram Launches AI-Powered 'Edits' App To Supercharge Mobile Video Creation: Here's What's New

Edits brings a wide range of video production tools to creators' smartphones, offering features that go far beyond what’s available in Instagram’s native app.

Instagram has officially launched its new standalone video editing app, Edits, aiming to simplify mobile content creation while amping up creative possibilities through artificial intelligence. After teasing the project nearly three months ago, the app is now available for download on both iOS and Android.

AI-Powered Video Editing At Your Fingertips

Edits brings a wide range of video production tools to creators' smartphones, offering features that go far beyond what’s available in Instagram’s native app. Users can now capture high-quality videos — up to 10 minutes long — with advanced control over resolution, frame rate, and dynamic range. With just a few taps, they can fine-tune their clips using touch-up features, one-tap green screen, and an extensive music library.

AI also takes centre stage in this app. One standout feature is AI image animation, which lets users breathe life into still photos by transforming them into motion-filled visuals. “You can also turn still images into videos, leveraging the AI image animation feature,” Meta said. Combined with tools like automatic captions and background noise removal, Edits is built to make storytelling both slick and seamless.

Keyframing, Green Screen, And More

Another highlight of Edits is its support for keyframing. This allows users to pinpoint exact moments in their video to animate position, rotation, and scale — bringing precision to creative transitions and effects. There’s also the option to swap out backgrounds using a green screen or layer video overlays for added depth.

The app comes packed with customisation features, including filters, typefaces, stickers, sound effects, and voice tweaks. Captions are automatically generated but fully editable, and background audio is cleaned up automatically for a more professional sound.

“On Edits, the keyframing feature enables you to pinpoint the exact moments to animate the position, rotation, and scale of the clips,” the company explained.

Not Just For Instagram Reels

Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Edits, says the app is designed for more than just Instagram and Facebook. “The new app is aimed at helping creators express themselves better on any platform,” Meta stated. While videos can be easily shared across Meta platforms, creators also have the freedom to export watermark-free versions for use elsewhere.

An Ideas tab acts as a digital notepad for spontaneous creative sparks, and a live insights dashboard offers metrics such as follower engagement and skip rates — handy for creators looking to tweak their content strategy.

Initially announced for iOS, Edits is now available globally on both the App Store and Google Play. Whether you're shooting on the fly or crafting a polished visual story, Instagram's Edits app might just be your next favourite creative tool.
