Indian-Origin Satya Nadella Gains More Leadership Influence In Microsoft, Elected As Chairperson

San Francisco: Microsoft on Wednesday announced chief executive Satya Nadella as chair of its board, furthering enhancing his leadership influence over the US technology company that he was expected to revamp with the fast-evolving world.
Nadella was unanimously elected head of the Microsoft board of directors, where he will guide the team "leveraging his deep understanding of the business to elevate the right strategic opportunities and identify key risks," the company wrote in a post.

Satya Nadella had taken over as Microsoft chief after Steve Ballmer in February 2014 and was entrusted to make the company more relevant in the evolving tech world led by rivals such as Apple and Google.
He took over the reins when there were doubts raised over Microsoft's future as to how will the tech giant founded in 1975 can remain competitive in comparison to its rivals.
The tech giant still continues to hold a significant space in terms of software such as Windows and Office - licensed or sold in packages for installation.
Meanwhile, Microsoft's board on Wednesday also announced a quarterly dividend of 56 cents per share, which will be paid out in September.
Microsoft will unveil a new generation of its Windows operating system next week, which market trackers say powers nearly three-quarters of the world's desktop computers.
