iOS 17.2 To Be Introduced Soon. Here's What To Expect From The Update

Some of the highly-anticipated features in iOS 17.2 are the introduction of the Journal app, FaceTime warnings for blocked contacts, spatial video recording support and Siri ETA, among others.

iOS 17.2 is likely to be released soon and the latest update from Apple is said to bring a number of security and bug fixes along with new features. The tech giant has been testing the iOS 17.2 update for quite a while now, which is currently being tested by developers and public beta users. The iOS 17.1 was rolled out in October. It should be noted that up to now, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant has issued four beta versions of iOS 17.2, indicating, the public release is imminent within the coming weeks and likely before the year ends.

Some of the highly-anticipated features in iOS 17.2 are the introduction of the Journal app, FaceTime warnings for blocked contacts, sticker reactions in the Messages app, spatial video recording support, Apple Music listening history, Siri ETA, collaborative Apple Music playlists, an action button Translate feature, among others.

It is advised to update your Apple devices regularly to ensure smooth functioning and more importantly, safeguarding against data leaks and attacks.

To recall, iOS 16.2 was launched on December 13 last year, and it introduced significant features such as Apple Music Sing and the new Freeform app. Here is what to expect from iOS 17.2:

A key update that the iOS 17.2 introduces is the new Journal app, initially introduced by Apple at WWDC in June. Described as an "all-new way to appreciate life’s moments and preserve your memories," the Journal app is currently exclusive to iPhones at launch. There is no information on whether the tech giant intends to extend its availability to the iPad and Mac devices in the future.

In the first three beta updated of iOS 17.2, users could create collaborative playlists in Apple Music, another feature originally unveiled by Apple at WWDC conference in June. It is anticipated to arrive later in the year. Surprisingly, iOS 17.2 beta 4 removes this capability. The fate of reinstating this feature before the widespread release of iOS 17.2 is uncertain.

A new default playlist named “Favourite Songs” is automatically created in iOS 17.2, deriving from songs a user marked as "favourites." This enhances the existing "Favourites" feature introduced in previous iOS 17.1. Additionally, iOS 17.2 enables automatic addition of favourited songs to your music library, accessible through the Settings app under "Music".

To recall, Apple introduced iOS 17.1, a follow-up to iOS 17 in October. The update was primarily aimed at resolving specific issues, with a notable focus on addressing regulatory concerns in France regarding the iPhone 12.
