Discord Is Pulling The Plug On Its AI Chatbot Clyde
Earlier this year, Discord initiated trials of Clyde's AI capabilities, employing OpenAI's models to enable the chatbot to respond to questions and engage in conversations with users.
Discord, the widely-used chat platform, has revealed its plans to discontinue its experimental artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot by the end of the month. Starting December 1, Discord users would not be able to summon Clyde via direct messages (DMs), group DMs, or server chats, according to the company's support page. To recall, Discord began testing Clyde’s AI capabilities earlier this year, using OpenAI’s models.

It shpuld be noted that the reason for Clyde's abrupt shutdown remains unclear. There's speculation that the chatbot might make a comeback as an exclusive feature for paid DIscord Nitro users, or Discord may have concluded that integrating an AI chatbot is not essential to its service after the testing phase.
Earlier this month, Discord added new and exclusive perks to let Nitro members customise their presence on the platform. Discord made its Nitro membership free to non-Nitro members for up to two weeks.
Following are some of the Discord Nitro benefits that have been recently launched:
Custom App Icons: Discord Nitro members can now customize their mobile and desktop apps with a Discord icon to match their vibe. They can choose from 19 fresh new styles, including tactical, pastel, prismatic waves and galactic chrome.
Soundboard Entrance Sounds: Nitro members can set a specific sound from any of their servers to automatically play from the Soundboard upon joining the voice call.
Early Access: Nitro members get early access to some of our most anticipated features such as:
- Remix allows Discord mobile app users to quickly edit, design and share photos with their friends. Users can crop an image, write over it with a paintbrush, add text, and even add any custom emoji and stickers from their servers.
- The in-app Shop gives Nitro members the opportunity to purchase profile accessories, starting with cool new avatar decorations and profile effects (animations that appear on a user profile whenever another user previews it).
- Clips allows users to capture and share the most exciting gaming and voice channel moments with their friends or community, all without leaving the app.
