West Bengal Budget Session | Mamata Banerjee’s Speech Interrupted By BJP MLAs Shouting Slogans Of ‘Modi Modi’

Banerjee responded to these slogans with chants of ‘Jai Bangla’, as she claimed that BJP was keen on disrupting the peace in the state while TMC fights for peace.

New Delhi: The third day of the West Bengal Assembly’s budget session saw high-voltage drama as the members of Bharatiya Janata Party shouted slogans of "Modi Modi" during Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s address.

According to a report by news agency PTI, as soon as Banerjee started speaking, the BJP leaders started shouting slogans like ‘Modi Modi’, ‘Jai Shree Ram’, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ for nearly 40 minutes.

Banerjee responded to these slogans with chants of ‘Jai Bangla’ and claimed that BJP was keen on disrupting the peace in the state while TMC fights for peace.

On Monday, the first day of West Bengal’s Budget session, Governor Jagdeep Dhankar was forced to cut short his address due to protests by BJP MLAs over the recent violence during the civic body polls.

Referring to the incident on Monday, Banerjee said, “The BJP members tried to disrupt the proceedings but their plot did not succeed, thanks to the Governor.”

She added, “They (BJP MLAs) are resorting to hooliganism in the Assembly even after losing the elections (assembly and recently held municipal polls). They are shameless.”

She also said that TMC won 105 seats out of 109 in the civic body polls.

Banerjee also referred to the suspension of TMC MPs Dola Sen and Santa Chhetri from the Rajya Sabha saying, “They suspended our MPs from the Rajya Sabha. Even a single vote matters there... Why will there be a difference in Bengal (assembly)?”

She further added that to save the country, the BJP must leave.

She also claimed that the centre did not help the state despite the massive destruction by cyclone Amphan, Yaas, and even during the pandemic.

In an apparent reference to BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, Mamata Banerjee said that bodies of Covid-19 patients were thrown in the Ganges and farmers were mowed down by moving vehicles.
