'Beginning Of An End': Bengal Guv On Sandeshkhali Accused Sheikh Shahjahan's Arrest
Bengal Governor Bose said that the arrest of Shahjahan is "just the tip of the iceberg", and such actions should be taken to eradicate violence in the state.
Hours after the prime accused of Sandeshkhali violence incidents, Sheikh Shahjahan, absconding Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, was arrested by the West Bengal Police on Thursday, Governor CV Ananda Bose said that the development is an "eye-opener for everyone".
Shahjahan was arrested from the Minakhan area in North 24 Parganas.
Governor Bose said that the arrest of Shahjahan is "just the tip of the iceberg", and such actions should be taken to eradicate violence in the state.
Bose told reporters, "Today in Bengal, we see the beginning of an end. The arrest of the prime accused in the Sandeshkhali incidents is an eye-opener for everyone. This is only the beginning. We have to put an end to violence in Bengal."
"In many pockets of Bengal, we all realise that gangsters are ruled unchecked by law enforcement agencies. What we see is only the tip of the iceberg. 'Gundaraj' is very much there in many pockets of Bengal. Strong action has to be taken. This has to be nipped in the bud," he added further.

A series of protests erupted in Sandeshkhali earlier this month against the allegations of land grab and sexual harassment by the 42-year-old TMC leader.
It is to be noted that the development comes a day after the Calcutta High Court directed that he could be arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), or the West Bengal police.
