Several Injured After Multiple Cars Collide On Bathinda-Chandigarh Highway In Punjab

A collision on the Bathinda-Chandigarh National Highway left several people injured. The collision was so severe that all of the cars involved were completely shattered.

Several people sustained injuries in a major accident when multiple cars collided on the Bathinda-Chandigarh National Highway in Punjab on Sunday (July 31). According to SHO Ravindra Singh, a car travelling from Bathinda collided with four other cars travelling in the same direction, causing damage to five vehicles, news agency ANI reported.

The SHO said: "A car was coming from the Bathinda side and it hit four other cars going towards the Bathinda side. The injured have been admitted to the hospital".

The collision was so severe that all of the cars involved were completely shattered. According to a Dainik Jagran report, the injured, including women, were quickly rescued and taken to Adesh Hospital in Bhucho Mandi for medical treatment.

High-speed driving is suspected to have caused the accident on the Bathinda-Bhucho overbridge on Sunday evening. According to the report which cited witnesses, a car travelling towards Chandigarh hit an obstacle on the overbridge, forcing the driver to apply sudden brakes. As a result, the cars in front collided one after the other, resulting in a devastating collision.

Approximately 15 people have been reported injured in the accident as of now, but their identities have not been released, the report said. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported as a result of the incident, it said.

The Cantt police team arrived quickly and began an investigation into the accident, according to the report.

The collision was so severe that all of the vehicles involved were badly damaged, causing a traffic jam on the overbridge, the report said. Following prompt notification of the situation, the Cantt police station, with the assistance of Youth Welfare Society workers, cleared the traffic jam, allowing other vehicles to pass, it added. The accident is thought to have been caused primarily by high-speed driving.
