Nitish Kumar Sex-Ed Remark Row: Plaint Against Bihar CM Filed With Muzaffarpur Chief Judicial Magistrate
A complaint was lodged at the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Muzaffarpur and the matter will be heard on November 25.
New Delhi: A complaint has been lodged at the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Muzaffarpur against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over his remarks on the importance of education of women in checking the country’s population, news agency ANI reported. The matter will be heard on November 25.
The development comes a day after the Bihar chief minister’s remark stoked a massive controversy. CM Kumar, during a debate on a caste-based economic survey in the state assembly, on Tuesday discussed the importance of women’s education to curb the country’s population.
Chaos erupted in the Bihar Assembly as the Opposition members staged a protest over his choice of words.
As CM Kumar’s remarks drew condemnation, Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav defended the former saying that his comment was regarding sex education.
"It is wrong to misinterpret (CM's remarks). His statement was regarding sex education, which people feel shy and hesitant to talk about. Biology is taught in schools. What he meant to say was about how to control the population," Tejashwi said.
Meanwhile, CM Nitish Kumar apologized for his comment on Wednesday. Addressing the media earlier in the day, he said, “"I apologise if my statement has hurt anyone.”
Lashing out at CM Kumar, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, speaking to ANI, said, “What is wrong with Nitish Kumar ji? What kind of obscene language is this? It is shameful to even repeat what he said. This is dirty thinking. And what kind of an apology was that? He said “if my statement has hurt anyone…” This shows his apology is not sincere. He made a derogatory remark on women in the state assembly and the deputy chief minister defends him saying he spoke on sex education. Is democracy a joke?”
