The maintenance work will be carried out on both runway number 14/32 and runway number 09/27. Tomorrow's repair work will be part of the post-monsoon maintenance. Coordination is being done with all airlines and institutions associated with operations.
Earlier in September, the airport operator, Adani Group, said it has "planned a runway closure on October 18 from 11 am to 5 pm, for repair and maintenance work on both its runways". The measure is part of its annual post-monsoon preventive maintenance exercise.
Mumbai airport remains the second busiest airport with two intersecting runways with main runway 9/27 and secondary runway 14/32 that handles around 800 flights per day. The airport of the financial city is the busiest after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The period of closure will be used by the facility operator to carry out major work such as runway edge lights for runway 14/32, upgradation of AGL (aeronautical ground lights ), among others, it stated.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) said with the cooperation of key stakeholders, it has already rescheduled flights for the runway closure period to ensure smooth completion of the maintenance work.
Earlier on October 14, 8 flights were diverted from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai due to bad weather. The decision was taken due to heavy rains.
