Ex-CRPF Cop Opens Fire At Son For Beating Grandson In Maharashtra's Nagpur, Held

Maharashtra News: A 68-year-old former CRPF jawan has been arrested for allegedly opening fire at his son for beating up his grandson in Nagpur city of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday, as reported by news agency PTI. According to the police, the incident occurred in Chintamani Nagar on Monday night.

The accused, who is currently working as a security guard for bank cash vans, scolded his 40-year-old son and daughter-in-law for beating up their son aged 4. The matter escalated and the elderly man allegedly shot at his son with his licensed rifle, an official from Ajni police station said, PTI reported. The police rushed to the spot following the incident after being alerted by some neighbours.

The bullet struck the leg of the accused's son and he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was reported to be out of danger, the official said. The accused was subsequently arrested on charges of attempt to murder and violation of the Arms Act, he said.

The accused during interrogation told the police that he was angry over the abuse of his grandson, the official said, as reported by PTI.

Meanwhile, in another incident that took place in Tamil Nadu's capital city, Chennai, two workers were killed on the spot and two others sustained grievous injuries in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in a village in Virudhunagar district, authorities said, as reported by PTI.

The deceased were identified as P Mariappan and P Muthumurugan, both aged 45 and belonging to Chidambarapuram in Vellur in Virudhunagar district, an official release said. The release further stated that the fireworks unit was located at Kalayarkurichi village, near Sivakasi.

Expressing anguish, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conveyed his condolences to the kin of the deceased and announced a solatium of Rs three lakh to the families of each of the two dead workers and an assistance of Rs one lakh each to the two injured persons.
