New Delhi: A woman was killed and her friend injured after a person hit them with his car following an argument outside a nightclub in Rajasthan’s Jaipur on Tuesday night, news agency PTI reported. The incident was caught on camera which shows the accused fleeing the spot after the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Uma Suthar and the person injured is Rajkumar. Uma, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, was living in Jaipur and used to manage events.
According to the PTI report, after inspecting some construction work at the terrace of the club, Uma and her friend came to the restaurant for dinner around 11pm. There they met the accused Mangesh, who had come with his girlfriend.
After a while, Mangesh, who was drinking, started passing comments at Uma, to which Rajkumar objected. "After this, the four sat together and normal conversation resumed. However, Mangesh tried to touch Uma," police told PTI, citing allegations made by Rajkumar in the FIR.
Uma and Rajkumar left the nightclub at 5am and Uma waited for a cab which she had booked. Mangesh and his girlfriend too stepped out of the club and engaged in a brawl with Uma, PTI reported. As the argument escalated, Mangesh left but soon returned in his SUV and drove over Rajkumar and Uma. They were rushed to the hospital, where Uma succumbed to her injuries and her friend is currently undergoing treatment.
“Police received information of a scuffle that broke out between the informant’s (identified as Rajkumar Jhanjhariya) friend and the other group at Hotel Everland. After the incident, the culprit identified as Mangesh, ran his car over Rajkumar’s friend Uma, who died. An FIR has been registered in the case and police teams were deployed to nab the culprit. He was apprehended later. Further investigation in the matter is underway,” DCP (East) Jaipur Gyanchand Yadav said.
