Jaipur Kin End Protest Over 38-Year-Old Man's Suicide, Family To Perform Last Rites
Deputy Commissioner of Police, North, Rashi Dogra Dudi said that the family members of Ramprasad Meena have agreed to end their dharna and perform his last rites.
New Delhi: The family and relatives of a 38-year-old man who allegedly hanged himself six days ago ended dharna on Saturday, after assurances from the administration on their demands, including action against the accused, PTI reported citing police officials.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, North, Rashi Dogra Dudi said that the family members of Ramprasad Meena have agreed to end their dharna and perform his last rites.
Meena's family and relatives had been staging a dharna to demand the arrest of those accused in the case, compensation, and a government job, according to PTI.
Following Meena's death on Monday, a case of abetment to suicide was registered against five-six people, including Water Supply Minister Mahesh Joshi, based on a complaint by his brother.
PTI reported that Ramprasad had allegedly recorded a video before killing himself in which he blamed Minister Joshi and others for driving him to take the extreme step.
Joshi, however, rejected the allegations against him and said police should conduct a fair investigation into the case.
Since then, Ramprasad's family members and relatives had been sitting on the dharna. They were joined by BJP MP Kirodi Lal Meena.
After the consensus, the MP said five people have been arrested in this episode and the rest of the accused will be apprehended after questioning.
He added that the victim's family will be allowed to build a house and financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh will be given to them from the BJP.
The family has been allotted a dairy booth and one member is proposed to be given a job in the municipal corporation, officials said.
Earlier on Thursday, Congress party leader Sachin Pilot visited the protest site where MP Kirodi Lal Meena was sitting on a dharna with the family.
"A person from the ST community has died by suicide. It is a shock if someone's life is lost. It is a very heart-wrenching incident. I talked to his father, brother and son, and they have said several things," Pilot told reporters.
"The victim's family should get justice. Justice should not be delayed and justice should also be visible,” he said.
