IndiGo's Advisory For Flyers As Heavy Rains Cripple Mumbai, IMD Issues Orange Alert In City

Heavy rains in Mumbai have disrupted railway services and road traffic, resulting in flights being delayed.

The monsoon downpour in Mumbai has resulted in waterlogged roads and railway tracks. The low-lying areas are also flooded, with water flowing into homes, shops, and offices. The downpour intensified early in the morning following incessant rainfall throughout the night.

Although the high tide at 3:39 AM did not result in further damage, Mumbaikars are worried as the rain has shown no sign of abating. Authorities in Mumbai and surrounding areas are on alert with another high tide expected at 4:09 PM on Friday, reported news website NDTV.

Flight operations in Mumbai are getting delayed and cancellations due to heavy rain and traffic congestion have increased. In its post on X, IndiGo wrote that flights have been impacted due to heavy rain and air traffic congestion in Mumbai. They have also advised the public to keep a tab on their flight schedules and current status.

The Times of India reported that several flights bound for Mumbai had been redirected from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to other airports, with a few of them being diverted to Ahmedabad. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Mumbai on Friday, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall. This means that the city is likely to receive between 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm during the day. Sushma Nair, a scientist working at IMD in Mumbai, mentioned that the presence of a monsoon trough and the development of a cyclonic circulation over Mumbai has led to strong westerly winds in the city. Consequently, there is a likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Konkan belt of Maharashtra during this time, reported The Indian Express. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra's Konkan belt.
