Haryana Assembly Session Set For Stormy Start Today, Confrontations Likely On Nuh Clashes And Floods

Haryana Assembly's approaching monsoon session, starting today, foresees opposition parties confronting BJP-JJP government over issues such as communal tensions and flood compensation.

The upcoming monsoon session of the Haryana Assembly, scheduled to begin on Friday (August 25) is anticipated to be marked by confrontations as opposition parties aim to challenge the BJP-JJP government on multiple fronts. Key issues, including recent communal tensions and compensation for flood-affected farmers, are set to take center stage.

According to a PTI report, a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party chaired by Bhupinder Singh Hooda deliberated extensively on topics to be raised during the session. The Leader of the Opposition affirmed the Congress' intention to address issues such as Nuh violence, flood-related compensation, unemployment, and law and order, it said.

The ruling BJP, along with its ally JJP and supporting Independents, also held preparatory discussions to outline their session strategy, the report said.

The Business Advisory Committee, led by Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta and attended by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala, and others, agreed upon the session's schedule. The Assembly will convene from August 25 to 29, with the weekend marked as holidays. The proceedings will begin with obituary references, followed by the Question Hour and legislative deliberations.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda, expressing concern over the session's duration, urged for an extension given the numerous pressing matters. He asserted that the Congress would bring an adjournment motion to discuss floods, Nuh violence, and law-and-order issues.

"It should be extended as there are several issues to be raised. We will also raise in the House the demand for extending the duration of the session," Hooda was quoted as saying by PTI.

Highlighting the Nuh violence incident, Hooda accused the government of inadequate response and demanded a judicial inquiry. He also pledged to raise concerns about rising crime rates, Dalit atrocities, and challenges faced by citizens related to various aspects, including education and property ID.

"Aside from that, unemployment and CET exam paper issues, problems with Parivar Pehchan Patra family identity card, issues with pay scales of employees and clerks, worrying condition of education, problems with property ID, increasing atrocities on Dalits, and loss suffered by farmers in millet crop will be raised in the Assembly," he said.

In response, Haryana Minister Kanwar Pal reaffirmed the government's commitment to address opposition queries and concerns during the session. He emphasised the government's willingness to respond comprehensively to the array of issues that will be raised.

"Be it Mewat, flood, or any other issue, we will give our reply. We are prepared to reply to all other issues," the Education and Parliamentary Affairs Minister had said.

The upcoming session is poised to witness robust debates and discussions on matters of public interest, from communal conflicts to unemployment and the state's overall governance. Opposition parties, led by the Congress and Indian National Lok Dal, intend to utilise the platform to voice citizens' concerns and seek answers from the state leadership.
