A Gujarat man died by suicide along with his two daughters and a son by jumping in front of a train in the Botad district on Sunday. Railway Protection Force sub-inspector VS Gole told news agency PTI that the incident took place at 6:30 pm between Ningala and Alampur stations. The deceased were identified as Mangabhai Vijuda (42-year-old), his daughters named Sonam (17-year-old), and Rekha (21-year-old), and his son Jignesh (19-year-old). All four belonged to the Nana Sakhpar village of Botad's Gadhada district.
Sub-Inspector Gole told PTI, "As part of a suicide pact, the four jumped in front of a passenger train on its way from Bhavnagar to Gandhidham. The bodies of the man, his two daughters and son were found along the tracks."
According to police officials, Vijuda was out on bail after getting arrested on the charges of attempt to murder following his fight with a relative, as reported by PTI.
Gole added that the bodies of all four have been sent for post-mortem and a probe into the matter has been launched to ascertain the reason behind such an extreme step.
Earlier in October, a 40-year-old rickshaw driver died by suicide after jumping in front of a train hours after an offence was registered against him for raping his 11-year-old daughter in Maharashtra’s Thane.
Senior Inspector Arun Khsirsagar told PTI that the accused lived with his daughter in Badlapur while his wife was employed in Dubai for the past two years.
Khsirsagar stated that the accused allegedly raped his daughter between July 2022 and October 2023. The incident came to light after the victim informed her grandmother about his father's actions and the same was communicated to the girl’s mother who arrived home just a few days back.
An FIR was lodged against the accused under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), as reported by PTI.
