Former Bengal CM Buddhadeb Taken Off Invasive Ventilation, Hospital Says Blood Pressure, Heart Stable

The hospital said that his overall condition is "hemodynamically stable."

New Bengal: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhabeb Bhattacharjee's medical condition improved on Monday after he was 'taken off from invasive ventilation support' and was placed on non-invasive support, the hospital said in a statement.

 

"Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was successfully weaned off from Invasive ventilation yesterday and is currently maintaining oxygen saturation on non-invasive ventilatory support," according to the Woodlands Hospital.

 

The hospital said that his overall condition is "hemodynamically stable." It means that the blood pressure and heart rate of Bhattacharjee are stable.

 

"Relevant conservative medical management is being continued. His overall clinical status remains hemodynamically stable," they said.

As per an official statement issued by the hospital on Monday, Bhattacharjee was on mechanical ventilation and underwent a CT Thorax Monday morning.

 

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had visited Bhattacharjee at the hospital on Monday afternoon. CM Banerjee stated: "I found him stable as he waved his hands after seeing me. Doctors are doing their best. I would like to thank the hospital for their effort."

Bhattacharya, who was transported to Woodlands Hospital on Saturday after complaining of shortness of breath, was diagnosed with a lower respiratory tract infection and 'Type 2' respiratory failure. He had COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and other age-related problems.

From 2000 until 2011, he was the chief minister of Bengal, a time highlighted by agitations against land acquisition for industries headed by Banerjee.

Bhattacharya has been out of the public eye in recent years due to his poor health and confinement to his Palm Avenue flat.
He was last seen in public when he arrived unexpectedly with oxygen assistance at the Left's rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata before of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Bhattacharya had stepped down from the CPI(M)'s Politburo and Central Committee in 2015, and gave up membership of the party's state secretariat in 2018.
