Ex-Mumbai Mayor Datta Dalvi Arrested Over 'Objectionable Language' Against CM Shinde

Former Mumbai Mayor and Uddhav Sena camp leader Datta Dalvi has been arrested for allegedly using objectionable remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Former Mumbai Mayor and Senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Datta Dalvi was arrested on Wednesday morning for allegedly using 'objectionable language' against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the Mumbai Police has said.

He was reportedly arrested after a complaint was filed by Shinde's supporters who did not take well to the remarks made by Dalvi when he was addressing a rally in Bhandup.

Currently a leader in the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, Dalvi was the Mumbai mayor from 2005 to 2007 during the BJP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra.

The police said that during the investigation it was found that Dalvi made the remarks at a meeting was organised by the Shiv Sena (UBT) in the Bhandup area on Sunday after which the complaint was filed.

Action on the complaint, an FIR was lodged against the former mayor under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code relation to promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration, obscene acts and songs and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

"A case was registered against Dalvi by the people of the Shinde faction," the Hindustan Times quoted the Bhandup Police as saying.
