'Does Anyone Do Corruption With God?' Priyanka Gandhi Hits Out At MP Govt Over Mahakal Corridor 'Scam'

MP Election: Priyanka Gandhi, addressing a rally in Dhar, said the Centre was treating women as a 'joke' as the legislation to reserve seats in assemblies could not be implemented for 10 years.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday attacked the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in Madhya Pradesh over alleged financial irregularities in 'Mahakal Lok' corridor of Ujjain and the Vyapam recruitment scam, saying it was high time to change the BJP regime. Addressing a rally in Dhar in poll-bound MP, Gandhi said the Centre was treating women as a "joke" as the legislation to reserve seats in assemblies for women could not be implemented for 10 years.

"Vyapam scam happened here. Was an investigation conducted? If you write against them (BJP), ED immediately reaches. You have to ask why ED has not come here yet? When there can be corruption with Maa Narmada and in connection with idols of Saptrishis (in Mahakal corridor)...Does anyone do corruption with God? Is it not the time to change them (BJP) now?" ANI quoted Gandhi as saying.

The Congress leader said more than 250 scams took place in 18 years of BJP rule in Madhya Pradesh. "In the last 18 years, there have been over 250 scams in Madhya Pradesh. There have been scams in mid-day meal scheme, recruitment, student admission, and scholarship," Gandhi further said.

The scam in Vyapam or Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board came to light in 2013, wherein candidates had bribed officials and rigged exams by deploying imposters to write their exams. The scam began in 1995. The CBI took over probe following a Supreme Court order in 2015.

BJP Treating Women As A Joke: Priyanka On Reservation Law

Attacking the Centre over the women's reservation law, Gandhi asked why the legislation was brought at this stage if the quota could not be implemented immediately.

"The BJP-led Union government brought in the women's reservation bill...all of us Opposition parties also supported it.…Then we learnt that it will not be implemented for ten years, before that the census will be conducted. Then what was the point of this announcement? You are treating women as a joke," PTI quoted Gandhi as saying.

The Centre said it would have to carry out a delimitation exercise before implementing the law, which reserves 33 per cent of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

"If everyone has equal rights, then why a caste census is not being conducted? In the Bihar caste census, it was found that 84 per cent of the population is OBCs and Dalits, but these people are not holding government posts, and when asked, they (BJP) fall silent," Gandhi further said.

The Congress on X claimed that the public is angry and they will throw the double-engine government of the BJP. Congress tweeted, "The people of Madhya Pradesh are extremely angry with the atrocities and corruption of BJP."

Earlier in the day, Priyanka Gandhi also visited the Mohankheda Tirth.
