Covid Cases In India: Daily Spike Dips To 743 Infections, But Nation Records 7 Deaths In 24 Hours
In the past 24 hours, the nation logged 743 fresh Covid-19 cases and seven fatalities. The fatalities were reported from Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu.
India logged 743 fresh Covid-19 infections and seven new fatalities on Saturday. Out of the seven fatalities, three were reported from Kerala, two from Karnataka, and one each from Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu in the span of 24 hours, as per the data of the Health Ministry. The active caseload was recorded this morning at 3,997, as reported by news agency PTI. The nation logged 162 cases of Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1 till Friday.
On Friday, India logged 797 Covid-19 cases in a period of 24 hours, the highest single-day spike in 225 days.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease till now is over 4.4 crore with a national recovery rate of 98.81 per cent, reported Union Health Ministry.
Due to the winter festivities the Covid virus is able to spread faster in crowded places. Experts have advised people with comorbidities and the elderly to avoid crowds as much as possible. They have also encouraged them to wear masks, PTI reported. Notably, the experts have also said that there was no need to enforce public health measures right away.

The experts have further urged the people to not panic. PTI cited them as saying that viral respiratory illnesses normally see a spike during winter months as well as during the pollution season.

PTI quoted Sumit Ray, Medical Director and Critical Care Head at Holy Family Hospital as saying, “We are seeing more influenza cases and H1N1 patients where there is serious lung involvement. The Covid cases that we have seen at our hospital are those where the finding of the infection has been incidental."
