Congress President Kharge To Attend Second 'Bharose Ka Sammelan' In Poll-Bound Chhattisgarh Today

Congress had won four out of six seats in undivided Rajnandgaon district in 2018. The other two seats were won by Raman Singh and Janata Congress Chattisgarh (J) leader Devvrat Singh.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will take part in 'Bharose ka Sammelan' to be held in Thekwa village of Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district today. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will also attend the event, said officials to news agency PTI.

Kharge, who is also the leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, reached Swami Vivekanand Airport in state capital Raipur on Thursday and stayed overnight at a resort in Nava Raipur, said an official.

"CM Baghel is scheduled to welcome Kharge at the airport. On Friday, they will head for Thekwa to participate in the Bharose ka Sammelan," the official was quoted as saying by PTI on Thursday.

Thekwa village is part of former chief minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Raman Singh's Rajnandgaon Assembly seat.

Congress had won four out of six seats in undivided Rajnandgaon district in 2018. The other two seats were won by Raman Singh and Janata Congress Chattisgarh (J) leader Devvrat Singh.

This is the second  'Bharose ka Sammelan' to be attended by Kharge in Chhatisgarh. The firs one was held in Janjgir-Champa district on August 12.

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo speaking to the media on Thursday said that there is a likelihood of party leader Rahul Gandhi coming to the poll-bound state in the coming days, reported news agency ANI.

"As the elections are approaching, all the political parties have set themselves in poll mode," said Deo.

On being asked when the Congress will release its list of candidates for the assembly elections to be held in the state later this year, Deo said," There is no rush in the party to release the list. Candidates are being identified".
