BJP's Jairam Thakur 'Trying To Draw Attention': Himachal CM Hits Back Over 'Corruption' Claim In Relief Distribution

Himachal CM claimed that the BJP leader only tries to draw attention through the media.

New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday reacted to BJP leader and former chief minister Jairam Thakur's allegations of corruption against the  Congress government in the distribution of relief to rain-affected people. Sukhu said that currently, the state government's primary objective is to ensure that help reaches all the affected areas.

Himachal CM also claimed that the BJP leader only tries to draw attention through the media.

"At present, our prime objective is to ensure how help reaches all those affected (by rain-related devastation). Jairam Thakur just tries to draw attention towards him through the media," Himachal CM told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Jairam Thakur had told reporters, "There are several areas in the state which are unable to receive ration supply as roads are still blocked."

Meanwhile, the BJP on Monday said it would expose the "corruption" by the Congress government in the distribution of relief to rain-affected people during the upcoming Monsoon session of the state assembly, reported PTI.

As per the agency, the decision was taken at a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party chaired by the leader of the opposition, Jai Ram Thakur. State BJP chief Rajiv Bindal also attended the meeting.

In the meeting, all the MLAs submitted their reports about the loss the state suffered due to heavy rains, while a resolution was adopted expressing grief over the loss of human lives and properties, a party statement said.

During the meeting, it was also decided that all the BJP MLAs would contribute their one month's salary to the disaster relief fund and give the amount to CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
