WATCH: When Pakistan's Umar Akmal hit 52 runs in 11 balls against India
New Delhi: With India and Pakistan are unlikely to play against each other in the near future, barring a couple of ICC fixtures, it’s a good idea to go through some past encounters that thrilled us to the core, like they always do.
Umar Akmal is player of great abilities. It’s another matter that he hasn’t been able to realise his potential. But when he first broke into international cricket, Akmal looked like a future batting star and he somewhat justified the tag with a couple of brilliant knocks.
In one such knock, played way back in 2011, Akmal blasted 52 runs from 11 deliveries in the Hong Kong Super Sixes tournament. Yes, you read it right, 11 balls! That innings consisted 7 sixes and just 2 fours.
Akmal’s stupendous hitting helped his team reach the total of 109 in mere 5 overs and Pakistan won the match by 22 runs.
Indain pacer Raju Bhatkal got special treatment as his first 3 deliveries were sent straight beyond the boundary line for sixes and Pakistan moved to the score of 42 in just 9 deliveries. In Super Sixes, a batsman has to retire after scoring 31 runs but he can come back if all other batsmen get out or retire.
Akmal, too, retired at the score of 31 but when he came back, he resumed from where he left and hit six to restart his innings.
Akmal’s 50 came off with a huge six on the last ball of the 5 over game and Pakistan finished strong with 109 runs. India lost scoring 87/1 in 5 overs, as Akmal’s thrilling 52* off 11 balls gave his team the much-needed win.
