Virat Kohli Quits As India's Test Captain; BCCI Thanks Him For 'Admirable Leadership And Contributions'

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter to thank Virat for his admirable leadership qualities that took the national team to unprecedented heights.

New Delhi: India's most successful Test captain, Virat Kohli on Saturday made an official announcement about him resigning as Test captain. The 33-year-old stepped down as Test skipper after India's heart-breaking 2-1 loss against South Africa in the recently concluded three-match Test series.

Virat had taken the job replacing MS Dhoni as Test skipper back in 2014. Virat had recently relinquished the T20 captaincy after which he was dropped as India's ODI captain by the BCCI.

Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter to thank Virat for his admirable leadership qualities that took the national team to unprecedented heights.

“BCCI congratulates #TeamIndia captain @imVkohli for his admirable leadership qualities that took the Test team to unprecedented heights. He led India in 68 matches and has been the most successful captain with 40 wins,” said BCCI in a tweet.

Virat Kohli captained the national team in 68 Test matches. Under his captaincy, team India has won 40 matches and lost 17. He is so far team India's most successful Test captain in International cricket.

Taking to Twitter, former India head coach Ravi Shastri termed Virat as "India's most aggressive and successful".

"Virat, you can go with your head held high. Few have achieved what you have as captain. Definitely India's most aggressive and successful. Sad day for me personally as this is the team Flag of India we built together," Ravi Shastri said in his post.
