Veteran Spinner R Ashwin Attains Huge Millstone In First County Match For Surrey

Before Surrey, Ashwin has played for Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire. After this, he will join the Indian team for a practice session to prepare for the Test series against England.

Indian cricket team's senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made his debut for Surrey in the County Championship. Ashwin achieved a big milestone in this match.  Playing for Surrey in the County Championship, Ashwin attained a special record against Somerset at The Oval on Sunday.

The veteran spinner became the first spinner to bowl the first over in an English County match in the last 11 years. Earlier in the year 2010, Jeetan Patel had done this. To prepare for the upcoming Test series against England, Ashwin decided to play in the County Championship.

Somerset captain James Hildreth won the toss and elected to bat first. After this, Surrey captain and England opener Rory Burns asked Ashwin to bowl the first over. Burns got Ashwin bowling from both ends and the spinner conceded just two runs in his first over.

The spinner bagged one wicket after bowling 24 overs till the tea break on the opening day. The batsmen had trouble scoring runs on Ashwin's precise line-length.

Ashwin conceded 58 runs in 24 overs with five maidens in the first two sessions and got a breakthrough in form of Tom Lamonby (42), at the start of the second session of the day, in the 40th over.

Before Surrey, Ashwin has played for Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire. After this, he will join the Indian team for a practice session to prepare for the Test series against England. The first Test match of the five-match Test series between India and England will begin on August 4.
