Sri Lanka Premier League 2022 Postponed Due To Economic Crisis In Country
The six-team continental tournament i.e. Asia Cup may be moved out of Sri Lanka. The island nation has the hosting of Asia Cup 2022, but it can be handed over to the United Arab Emirates i.e. UAE.
New Delhi: The 2022 edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), Sri Lanka's domestic cricket competition, has been postponed indefinitely. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) made this announcement via a press release on Sunday. The tournament was scheduled to take place from August 1-22, 2022. "Sri Lanka Cricket would like to announce that the Sri Lankan Premier League, scheduled to be held from August 1 to August 21, 2022, is suspended with immediate effect," the SLC said in a statement on its website.

The SLC said that the tournament's rights holder, Innovative Production Group FZE, had said it was not the right time to organize the tournament, citing the country's economic situation, following which the cricket board took the decision.
Asia Cup 2022 likely to be moved out of Sri Lanka
The fate of the Asia Cup 2022 seems to be changing day by day, as the political developments in the island nation indicate a change rather than the status quo. As per a report in Cricbuzz, there are strong indications that the six-team continental tournament i.e. Asia Cup may be moved out of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has the hosting of Asia Cup 2022, but it can be handed over to the United Arab Emirates i.e. UAE.
According to Cricbuzz, talks were held between the ACC and the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) in the UAE. The SLC is being kept in the loop and the Asia Cup is expected to be held on the same dates as announced earlier, from August 26 to September 11.
