Mayawati Sacks Nephew Akash Anand From All BSP Posts, Says 'Won't Announce Successor Till I'm Alive'

Anand Kumar and Ramji Gautam have been made the National Coordinators of the party.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has removed Akash Anand from all the posts of the party. He has been relieved as her 'successor' and BSP's national coordinator. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister stressed she would not announce her successor till she is alive as she highlighted that the party and movement are supreme for her and relations can come later.

According to a statement issued by BSP, Mayawati has now assigned the role of party coordinator to her youngest brother and BSP national vice-president, Anand Kumar. Additionally, Ramji Gautam has also been appointed as the party’s national coordinator.

Mayawati Blames Anand's Father-In-Law For Derailing His Political Career

In the statement issued after the BSP’s national-level meeting in Lucknow, Mayawati said that Akash Anand has been relieved of all his responsibilities, emphasising the decision was taken in line with the principles of party founder Kanshi Ram.

Last month, the BSP had expelled Akash Anand's father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, for engaging in anti-party activities. The BSP, in the statement, accused Siddharth of having a negative impact on Anand’s political career. She accused Siddharth of dividing the party into two factions and weakening it. Mayawati pointed out that his intentions had become evident during his daughter's wedding.

She expressed concern over the influence of Ashok Siddharth on his daughter and, consequently, on Akash Anand, adding that there are "serious concerns" about the latter which do not appear to be positive.

The BSP chief held Siddarth "fully responsible" for damaging the party and derailing her nephew's political career, stressing the decision was taken "for the greater interest of the party and movement".

She appointed Anand Kumar in place of Akash Anand and praised him for his dedication, stating he has "never disappointed her or harmed the party and movement in any manner".

She also outlined the plans for the upcoming celebrations of BSP founder Kanshi Ram's birth anniversary, reaffirming the party's commitment to his ideology.
