Roger Federer Withdraws From US Open Due To Knee Injury, Swiss Maestro's Future In Doubt?

“I’ll be on crutches for many weeks and out of the game for many months. It will be difficult but I know it’s the right thing to do," said Roger Federer in a video that he posted.

Roger Federer has decided to withdraw from the US open 2021. His decision comes in the light of an injury that he faced during the Wimbledon. He wasn't fit and thus, decided to not participate in the Olympic Games as well. The Swiss maestro informed about this news through his Instagram handle.

"I want to give myself a glimmer of hope to return to the tour in some shape or form. I am realistic. Don’t get me wrong. I know how difficult it is at this age to do another surgery and try it. But I want to be healthy and I’ll go through the rehab process," Federer said.

“What's been going on since Wimbledon - As you can imagine it’s not been simple,’’ he said.

The 40-year old Swiss, who won his last Wimbledon in 2017 was defeated 3-6, 6-7 and 0-6 in the quarter-final by Hubert Hurkacz. Federer has won 20 grand slams, but his last slam came in 2018 when he won the Australian Open.

“I’ll be on crutches for many weeks and out of the game for many months. It will be difficult but I know it’s the right thing to do,' Federer added.

Roger Federer also explained his injury to the fans. He sounded serious as he wanted a "long-term" solution so that he returns back to the court.

“I’ve been doing a lot of checks with doctors on my knee, getting all the information as I hurt myself further in the grass-court season and Wimbledon. It’s not the way to go forward. Unfortunately for the medium to long term to feel better, I will need surgery," he added.

"Big Thank you for all your messages. I will update you when I return from rehab," Federer concluded.
