Rio Olympics (golf): Aditi Ashok fires 2nd successive 3-under, four shots off lead

Rio de Janeiro: Two bogeys while on her way out dented Aditi Ashok’s otherwise flawless round as she carded her second successive round of 3-under 68, to aggregate 6–under 136 and slipped to tied 8th in the Olympics women golf here on Thursday. The Bangalore-based golfer was just four shots behind overnight leader Inbee Park, and might have been closer to her but for two bogeys. The Indian began with birdies on the 1st and the 4th, and she finished her front nine with another birdie that took her to the top of the leaderboard, albeit briefly. Aditi, however, carded her first bogey for the round on the 10th, but she fired successive birdies on the 15th and the 16th to stay at the top of the leaderboard. She scored her second bogey on the 18th. “I'm obviously pleased with myself," said Aditi, who last year became the youngest player to win the qualifying event that put her on the Ladies European Tour. "Three under on both days and that's pretty consistent for me. I dropped a few shots and could have done better, but I'm happy going into the weekend.” “I didn't expect to be there,'' she said. "I just wanted to follow my game plan and do the best I could. It's great to be there and I'm looking forward to the weekend.'
