Paul Pogba Tests Covid-19 Positive, Withdrawn From France's Squad For UEFA Nations League Matches

France manager Dider Deschamps confirmed that the Manchester United player was supposed to be part of French squad but owing to the midfielder testing positive, Stade Rennes' young talent Eduardo Camavinga will replace him in the team.

The French national football team suffered a major blow ahead of their UEFA Nations League campaign as their star midfielder Paul Pogba tested positive for coronavirus and won't be taking part in France's upcoming matches against Sweden and Croatia. France manager Dider Deschamps confirmed that the Manchester United player was supposed to be part of French squad but owing to the midfielder testing positive, Stade Rennes' young talent Eduardo Camavinga will replace him in the team. "Paul Pogba was supposed to be in the list of players. Unfortunately for him, he got tested yesterday, which turned out to be positive this morning," Deschamps told reporters. Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele also doesn't find a place in the squad after testing positive for COVID-19, according to L'Equipe. He is currently placed in a 14-day quarantine. "Pogba has been replaced in the squad after testing positive for COVID-19. The midfielder will be unable to add to his 69 caps and 10 goals for his country in the games next month," said Manchester United in their statement. "Everybody at United wishes Paul a speedy recovery ahead of the new season." “I had to make a change at the last minute because Paul Pogba was supposed to be in the squad,” Deschamps told media in a virtual press conference. “Unfortunately for him, he had a test yesterday which was positive this morning,” Deschamps added. Pogba has been an integral member of the French football team and has doned the international jersey for the 'Les Bleus' 69 times, scoring 10 goals for them in his international career. Pogba was part of the 2018 World Cup winning French team and add his own moment in the title clash against Croatia by scoring a goal in the grande finale which France won 4-2. France are scheduled to play Sweden in Solna on September 5 and Croatia in Paris on September 8 in the UEFA Nations League.
