West Indies Star Lendl Simmons Retires From International Cricket

Lendl Simmons made his international debut in an ODI match against Pakistan. He played the last ODI match of his career for West Indies in 2015.

New Delhi: West Indies star batter Lendl Simmons announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday. The veteran amassed 3763 runs across formats for West Indies. Born on 25 June 1985 in Trinidad, Simmons made his debut for national squad in 2006.

Simmons made his international debut in an ODI match against Pakistan. He played the last ODI match of his career for West Indies in 2015. After this, he did not play any match for the Windies due to lack of form and injury. Simmons scored 1958 runs in 68 ODIs for West Indies at an average of 31.58. He could score only two centuries in his ODI career.

Simmons had an average Test career. He made his Test debut for West Indies in 2009 and played his last Test match against Bangladesh in 2011. During his two-year Test career, he played just 8 matches and scored 278 runs at an average of 17.38. Simmons' T20 career was better than both the other formats.

Earlier on Monday, former West Indies captain and wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Ramdin announced his retirement from international cricket. Ramdin played the last international match for West Indies in December 2019.
