New Delhi: Former West Indies cricket team captain and wicket-keeper batter Denesh Ramdin has announced retirement from international cricket. The 37-year-old was not selected for the West Indies team for a long time. He has not played any professional cricket since September 2021. Ramdin, who played his last international match for West Indies in December 2019, took to Instagram to announce his retirement. The veteran has made it clear that he will continue to play franchise cricket. However, no franchise has placed a bet on him for the upcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Ahead of announcing his retirement, Ramdin wrote, “It is with great pleasure that I announce my retirement from international cricket. The past 14 years have been a dream come true.
“I fulfilled my childhood dreams by playing cricket for Trinidad and Tobago and the West Indies,” the former West Indies player said.
“My career afforded me the opportunity to see the world, make friends from different cultures and still be able to appreciate where I came from.
Even though I am announcing my retirement from international cricket, I am not retiring from professional cricket,”
Ramdin has so far played for Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, and Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Apart from this, he also played in the Pakistan Super League in 2017 and 2018.
Ramdin, the wicket-keeper batsman, has won two T20 World Cup titles with West Indies in 2012 and 2016. In 2014, Ramdin was made the captain of the West Indies Test team. He has led the West Indies in 13 Tests, three T20Is, and one ODI. West Indies won only four out of 13 Tests under his captaincy.
Ramdin, who made his international debut in 2005, has played 74 Tests, 139 ODIs, and 71 T20Is for the West Indies. He scored 2,898 runs in Tests which includes four centuries and 15 half-centuries. In ODIs, he scored 2,200 runs which include two centuries and eight half-centuries. Ramdin has scored 636 runs in T20 cricket which included one half-century.
