Patidar's Impact: Achieves What Kohli Couldn't In 9 Years For RCB

Patidar led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a historic win, breaking a 16-season losing streak at Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) home ground.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has kicked off Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with back-to-back wins, winning their first two matches under new captain Rajat Patidar.

In just his second game as skipper, Rajat Patidar achieved something that even Virat Kohli couldn't accomplish in his nine-year tenure as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain.

RCB ends 17-year Chepauk drought

Since the Indian Premier League's (IPL) inception in 2008, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had never managed to beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their fortress, Chepauk Stadium, after their lone win there in the inaugural season.

From 2009 to 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered eight consecutive defeats at this venue. Even during Kohli's captaincy from 2013 to 2021, Chepauk remained unconquered. However, Patidar led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a historic win, breaking a 16-season losing streak at Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) home ground.

Captain Patidar leads from the front

Rajat Patidar not only impressed with his leadership but also played a key role with the bat. He smashed 51 runs off 32 balls, including three sixes and four fours, guiding Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a strong total of 196. His all-round contribution earned him the Player of the Match award.

CSK vs RCB: Match Recap

Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) posted 196/7 in 20 overs, with contributions from Phil Salt (32), Devdutt Padikkal (27), Rajat Patidar (51), and Tim David (22). Noor Ahmed took three wickets for CSK, while Pathirana claimed two.

In reply, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) struggled to chase the target, managing only 146/8 in 20 overs, falling short by 50 runs. Rachin Ravindra top-scored with 41 runs. For Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Josh Hazlewood picked up three wickets, while Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone took two each. With this win, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) remains unbeaten and sits atop the points table.
