Why No. 9? Pathan, Uthappa Criticize Dhoni's Batting Position After CSK Loss

Many fans and experts believe that MS Dhoni could have made a difference had he batted earlier.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a 50-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chepauk, their first home loss to RCB in 17 years. Chasing 197 runs, CSK managed only 146/8 in 20 overs.

Many fans and experts believe that MS Dhoni could have made a difference had he batted earlier. However, he was surprisingly sent in at number 9, a move that led to lots of criticism.

Robin Uthappa questions CSK's tactics

Former cricketer Robin Uthappa expressed his disappointment over Dhoni's late entry, questioning the decision on social media. He hinted that CSK missed an opportunity by holding back their most experienced finisher.

"Important win for RCB. A win at the fortress in Chepauk will be a huge boost in their campaign this year. Dhoni coming at number 9 dint make sense at all. Him coming earlier could have helped CSK’s NRR in their campaign this year," Robin Uthappa posted on X.

Irfan Pathan questions CSK's decision

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan also expressed his disappointment over MS Dhoni batting at number 9 in CSK's loss against RCB.

Taking to social media, Pathan questioned the strategy behind sending Dhoni so late in the order, hinting that CSK may have missed a big opportunity to turn the game around.

RCB breaks 17-year jinx at Chepauk

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally broke their 17-year winless streak at Chepauk, defeating Chennai Super Kings by 50 runs in the 8th match of IPL 2025.

Batting first, RCB posted a total of 196/7 in 20 overs. In response, CSK's managed only 146/8 despite Rachin Ravindra's 41-run knock.

RCB bowlers dominated the game, with Josh Hazlewood delivering a standout performance, taking 3 wickets for just 21 runs. This win marks RCB's second consecutive win of the season.
