New Delhi: The Indian cricket team players on Thursday sported black armbands to honor the demise of renowned coach and former first class cricketer Vasudev Paranjape. Master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sanjay Manjrekar and Rohit Sharma are some of the big names who were mentored by Vasudeo Paranjape. The unsung hero of Indian cricket, Vasudev Paranjpe passed away after a prolonged illness at the age of 82, at his residence in Mumbai.

Paranjpe's knowledge regarding batting technique and his knack of getting the best out of the players elevated him into the stature of one of the best guides of cricket in India. Paranjpe's son Jatin Paranjpe has been a national selector along with playing four One-Day-Internationals for India.
Vasudev Paranjape had tried his hand in cricket before coaching. He played 28 first-class matches for Mumbai during which he scored 785 runs with the help of two centuries and as many fifties. Vasu, however, became more famous for his coaching skills. He was the Director of Coaching of BCCI in the 80s and mentored legends like Sachin, Gavaskar and Vengsarkar.
