Darren Berry rejects Pakistan fielding coach role

London [UK], August 14 (ANI): Former Australian cricketer Darren Berry has rejected the role of the Pakistan fielding coach which was offered to him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The wicketkeeper-batsman, who is currently working with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Islamabad United, believes that it is too soon for him to take the full-time International job.

"I'm extremely thankful for the opportunity presented by Micky Arthur and PCB. After healthy discussions between the PCB and myself, I have decided that at this point in time with a young family (Berry has three children) that full-time international travel was a bridge too far right now," ESPNcricinfo quoted Berry, as saying.

"I will continue to work with Islamabad United in the PSL and will keep an open mind in relation to international coaching opportunities in the future," he added.

The right-hand batsman was considered for the job after Pakistan's former fielding coach Steve Rixon decided not to renew his contract citing personal and professional reasons.

Before getting associated with Islamabad United, Berry spent four years with domestic team South Australia and guided them to 2010-11 Big Bash victory. (ANI)
