Rohit Sharma Achieves Unique Record After Opting To Bowl First In the World Cup 2023 Game Against PAK
The Indian team also holds a top spot when it comes to the toss, leading by 5-2 against Pakistan.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma reached a unique feat after he became the first Indian leader to choose to bowl after winning the toss against Pakistan on Saturday in the World Cup. The Men in Blue has an impeccable record against the Men in Green as far as the World Cup is concerned, securing victories in all the seven matches played so far.
The Indian team also holds a top spot when it comes to the toss, leading by 5-2 against Pakistan. It was back in 1992 when both the teams locked horns with each other for the first time and India won the toss and opted to bat first.
The same drill continued for the next two editions as India would have decided to put on a target for their arch-rivals. The Pakistan team then broke India’s winning streak in 2003 as they won the toss and chose to bat first. During the 2011 World Cup, the Indian team under the leadership of MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first, continuing it in the 2015 mega event that took place in Australia.
Pakistan team won the toss in 2019 and decided to bowl first and now Indian skipper also did the same after winning the toss this time. At the time of the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said, “We will bowl first, cannot get bigger than this, fantastic atmosphere. Sure lot of us are going to experience something really extraordinary. It's a good track, not going to change much, dew could be a big factor and keeping that in mind, we want to bowl first.”
“We want to keep striving for the best, we want to come out there and give our best in every game. Keeping the atmosphere in the team relaxed is the most important thing in a tournament like this. Gill is back in place of Ishan, unfortunate for Ishan to miss out, feel for him, he stepped up when we needed him. Gill has been a special player for us over the past year or so, especially at this ground and we wanted him back” he added.
