BCCI vs PCB standoff: ICC is struggling to finalize the schedule for Champions Trophy 2025 due to unresolved differences between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the proposed hybrid model. The primary issues revolve around the tournament's format and venue allocation.

India's decision not to tour Pakistan citing security concerns escalated tensions. PCB initially opposed the hybrid model. However, during an ICC meeting, Pakistan reportedly agreed to the model on the condition that in future ICC tournaments hosted by India, Pakistan's matches would be played at a neutral venue under the hybrid model arrangement.

Champions Trophy 2025 might be played in T20 format

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, originally scheduled as a 50-over tournament in Pakistan, might shift to a T20 format, according to a report by Cricbuzz.

The potential change might come into effect due to the declining popularity of ODI cricket and the growing appeal of T20 matches, which are faster-paced and more audience-friendly.

Delays in finalizing the tournament details, schedule have also increased pressure from sponsors, who face losses due to the lack of marketing opportunities.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is expected to feature 15 matches under a hybrid model, with 10 games in Pakistan and the remaining fixtures in locations like Dubai or Sri Lanka.

However, Pakistan has reportedly threatened to boycott ICC events in India over the next three years if the hybrid arrangement is implemented. BCCI has firmly rejected Pakistan's demand for similar provisions in future ICC tournaments hosted in India. The ongoing standoff between the two cricket boards has further delayed the finalization of the tournament's format and schedule.
