Why have an umpire when you have Dhoni?

MS Dhoni once again proved his worth in the team by making the correct DRS call that gave India their first breakthrough of the day.

Do you ever get tired of seeing the sun every morning? Even if you do, you really don’t have an alternate, not only is it indispensable but also utterly important for survival. It won’t be an exaggeration to compare Dhoni’s DRS judgement to that rising sun every morning. The same thing over and over again yet so important, so surreal and effortlessly soothing to the eye.

Dhoni yet again defied his teammates and convinced his captain to opt for DRS when even the bowler – Yuzvendra Chahal – himself wasn’t that keen after Imam Ul Haq got his pad in the way of a defensive push. 30 seconds later, the entire world had another opportunity to sing praises for Dhoni. The ball-tracking showed three reds, India got their first breakthrough and what was Dhoni’s reaction after seeing the giant screen? Stone-like, as if he was forced to attend a boring lecture sitting on the first bench.

Let’s take you through the exact turn of events. It was the last delivery of the eighth over, Pakistan openers, still standing unscathed but far from being comfortable at the crease, were looking to break the shackles. And what better option than taking a leg-spinner on in the powerplay? Surprisingly though, Fakhar Zaman and Imam Ul Haq did not take that route and decided to see Chahal off. In his quest to pick up a single, Imam got his pads a bit too far across the line and Chahal’s orthodox leg-spinner hit his front pad evading his defensive push.

Expectedly, the leggie and Dhoni went up in appeal only to be denied by the umpire Rod Tucker. Dhoni immediately gave the nod to Rohit, standing at mid-wicket, who did not seem optimistic, to go for the review. And as it turned out, it couldn’t have got more plumb.
