Mitchell Starc dismissed Ben Stokes with one of the best deliveries of the tournament to turnaround the game in Australia's favour.
Australia defeated arch rivals England at Lord's on Tuesday to become the first team to reach the semi finals of the 2019 ICC World Cup being played in the United Kingdom . The defending champions outplayed their opponents in all facets of the game to register a thumping victory 64 run win.
Australia's win was built around an all-round performance by both their batsmen and bowlers. While, Aaron Finch laid the foundation of a challenging total with his seventh ton against England, it was a fiery spell of fast bowling by Mitchell Starc and Jason Behrendorff .
The major turning point of the game happened when left arm Mitchell Starc bowled a terrific yorker to castle Ben Stokes stumps. Starc hurdled in a 90 mph yorker which went past Stokes defences and hit the timber. In the context of the game, the dismissal was crucial for Australia as England's only hopes of chasing down the target lay in Stokes who seemed to be well settled on 89.
The delivery which send Stokes back to the pavilion is gone viral among cricketing fans on the net and is being hailed by experts as the 'Ball of the Tournament'. Interestingly, Starc has bowled more yorkers than any other bowler since the 2015 World Cup. According to cricinfo stats on average, every eighth ball he has bowled since then has been a yorker.
