Will Virat Kohli Now Play County Cricket In England? Here Is What We Know

English county side Middlesex has shown strong interest in signing Virat Kohli for the upcoming domestic season.

After announcing his retirement from Test cricket during IPL 2025, Virat Kohli may have closed one chapter, but another opportunity has emerged abroad.

English county side Middlesex has shown strong interest in signing the Indian cricket legend for the upcoming domestic season.

Middlesex keen to bring Virat Kohli on board

According to reports, Middlesex's Director of Cricket Alan Coleman confirmed that the club would welcome the chance to work with Kohli.

"Virat Kohli is the most iconic player of his generation, so of course we are interested in having that conversation," said Coleman to The Guardian.

The county is reportedly keen on having Kohli participate not just in the County Championship, but also in the One-Day Cup. The offer comes shortly after Kohli's shock decision to step away from the longest format of the game ahead of India's crucial Test series in England.

Kohli's 2018 county plan that didn't materialize

This isn't the first time Virat Kohli has been linked with county cricket. Back in 2018, before India's tour of England, he was slated to play for Surrey to acclimate to English conditions. Unfortunately, a neck injury forced him to pull out at the last minute, and the opportunity slipped away.

Despite widespread interest, Kohli has never featured in county cricket - a surprising fact considering his long international career.

Despite stepping away from Tests, Kohli remains in top form. In the ongoing IPL 2025, he has been a consistent performer, scoring 505 runs in 11 matches at an average of 63.13. He is currently the leading run-scorer for RCB this season.

Will Virat Kohli make the move?

While Middlesex's interest is clear, Virat Kohli's participation remains uncertain. Given his current focus on limited-overs cricket for India and his ongoing IPL commitments, it remains to be seen whether he will accept the offer and take on a new challenge in county cricket.
