After Virat And Rohit, Another Indian Cricket Legend Announces Retirement

While bidding farewell to her playing career, the legendary India player shared a reflective note on her journey.

Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy, known for her explosive middle-order batting, has officially announced her retirement from international cricket.

The 31-year-old made the announcement through an emotional post on social media, marking the end of a notable chapter in Indian women's cricket. Veda, who last represented the national side in 2020, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported her throughout her career.

She represented India in a total of 124 international matches, which included 48 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 76 T20 Internationals (T20Is).

In ODIs, she accumulated 829 runs, while in T20Is she scored 875 runs, showcasing her ability to contribute in both formats. She also chipped in with the ball, picking up 3 wickets in the 50-over format.

Goodbye to playing, but not to cricket

Though stepping away from active competition, Veda made it clear that her connection with the game is far from over. “I'm saying goodbye to playing, but not to cricket,” she added, hinting at a possible future in the sport in a different capacity.

Known for her aggressive strokeplay and sharp fielding, Veda was part of some of Indian women’s cricket’s most memorable moments, including the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup campaign where India finished as runners-up.

With her retirement, Indian cricket bids farewell to a spirited performer who inspired many young athletes, especially from non-metropolitan backgrounds. Her next steps in the cricketing ecosystem—be it mentorship, commentary, or coaching—will be watched with keen interest by fans and the cricketing fraternity alike.
