Taijul Islam Scalps Fifer In Second Test Vs South Africa Days After Announcing His Readiness To Succeed Najmul Shanto As Bangladesh Skipper

Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam scalped a fifer in the second Test against South Africa.

Taijul Islam, the senior spinner, who has earned 48 Test caps, 28 ODI caps and two T20 caps for Bangladesh since making his international debut, has said that he is fully prepared to take over as the team's Test captain. His remark comes amid reports that Bangladesh's current captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is reportedly set to resign as Bangladesh Test captain at the end of the two-match series against South Africa.

Even though Taijul said that he is not aware of Najmul's decision to leave the leadership role, he did not shy away from giving his name in the list of possible successors.

"I haven’t heard anything on this matter (regarding Najmul quitting from captaincy). It’s not part of our role; I’m not fully informed on this," Taijul told reporters before the start of the match.

And now he has followed that up with a five-wicket haul. As the Proteas took firm control in the second Test in Chattogram, the left-arm spinner remains the only Bangladesh bowler to be amongst the wickets with the visitors going to Lunch at 413/5 At Lunch On Day 2.
