Mohammad Hafeez ruled out of PSL and in doubt for World Cup
The Qalandars captain immediately left the field in agony after hurting his right thumb in an attempt to hold onto a return catch off South African batsman Colin Ingram in the 13th over of the match.
A fractured thumb ruled out Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez from the remainder of Pakistan Super League and also put his World Cup participation in doubt after it was revealed that he would need to undergo surgery soon.
Hafeez sustained the injury during the Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings match on Saturday. The Qalandars captain immediately left the field in agony after hurting his right thumb in an attempt to hold onto a return catch off South African batsman Colin Ingram in the 13th over of the match. He did not take further part in the game and also missed Qalandars’ next match against Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday. AB de Villiers led the side in Hafeez’s absence.
Qalandars, who picked up Hafeez in the platinum category and immediately named him captain for the fourth edition of PSL, will soon announce a replacement.
“This is extremely disappointing for us that Hafeez has been injured and won’t be available to Qalandars for the tournament. We wish him a quick recovery and back in action soon,” said Sameen Rana, the manager of Lahore Qalandars.
